About Me...

Gemma Kirkpatrick MACCPH Accred. Dip. Couns, Dip. psyth

Sometimes we just need someone to talk to

Hi, my name is Gemma.

I am a therapeutic counsellor and psychotherapist.

Person-centred, Integrative and Humanistic in approach, seeing a person as a whole is at the core of my work.

I consider my approach to be more pluralistic in nature, I believe in the consideration of using a combination of methods from different approaches and the benefits of a collaborative effort with my clients to find what is best for them as a whole.

Relational depth and building therapeutic alliance are at the core of my therapy and very important to me.

I work with clients with a range of issues, and help people who are experiencing mood/anxiety and affective disorders.

I help people who are experiencing clinical depression, low mood, nervousness, sadness, anxiety, feelings of anger and frustration.

I also help people who are experiencing low self-esteem and body-confidence issues.

I specialise in helping people who are struggling emotionally after a diagnosis of a degenerative disease, chronic illness and neurological disorder, particularly neuromuscular conditions.

To support through therapy and encourage clients whom, after facing a life-changing diagnosis find themselves struggling to deal with potential challenges and changes that may arise as a consequence.

Regardless of what a client chooses to bring to therapy, helping them to navigate living a life which is rich in human emotion and purposeful is at the heart of my work.

I am passionate about bridging the gap in therapy for disabled people. I have worked, and continue to work with disabled clients with a range of disabilities. Clients with progressive illness and chronic conditions.

I am proud to be a Disability-Affirmative Therapist.

I am a supporter of the Purple Therapy Framework and offer a flexible approach to therapy for all clients.

I am a registered and accredited member of the ACCPH an independent professional body and register for counsellors, coaches, psychotherapists and hypnotherapists.

I have a creative background in fine art photography, which has given me an interest in PhotoTherapy and therapeutic photography.

I have previously worked in dementia care settings as an HCA in neurorehabilitation prior to counselling. Working within the NHS and the private sector before being diagnosed with MD in 2014.

Taking elements from my background experiences as an HCA in neurorehabilitation, creative photography, fine art and therapeutic interests, I became a private counsellor.

Completing the relevant studies to obtain my L5 in counselling, and passing my diploma in psychotherapy with distinction, I went on to obtain my registration number and accreditation with the ACCPH. which I am now a Senior Member of.
